    Overview

    We are seeking resumes of native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese with a strong linguistics background and specific expertise in phonetics/phonology for upcoming Voice Coach and Linguist positions to support the creation of TTS voices. 

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in Linguistics or other relevant field (MA/MS+ preferred)
    • Strong background in phonetics/phonology
    • Facility with phonemic & phonetic transcription (X-SAMPA preferred, IPA ok)
    • Experience with voice coaching or working as a voice talent is a plus
    • Experience with TTS is considered an advantage

     

    Responsibilities 

    The role is to provide phonetically-motivated feedback to voice talent artists recording voice prompts for a text-to-speech system. Tasks include evaluating the phonetic quality of the voice recordings, flagging transcription errors in real time, and providing feedback to the voice talent in real time to improve recording quality. 

     

    The voice coach will also need to

    • be able to explain phonological processes as well as concepts from articulatory and acoustic phonetics,
    • be able to validate & justify phonetic transcription choices,
    • understand the physical process of speech production and how to alter speech quality or change phonation
    • have a keen awareness of Brazilian regional pronunciation differences
    • have excellent English & Portuguese communication skills - the consultant will interact directly with the client team & with the Voice Talent

     

    Project Details

    Role:            pt-BR Voice Coach

    Start Date:   June 2018

    Length:        8-10 weeks

    Hours:         Approx. 6 hours per day, 24-30 hours per week, 10:00-17:00 (BRT)

    Dates & Location:  First 2 weeks in Gdańsk, Poland; Following weeks remote or on site (if located in São Paulo)

     

    The successful candidate will need to spend at least two weeks onsite in Gdańsk, Poland at the beginning of the project (exact dates to be determined). Preference will be given to candidates located in São Paulo or able to work in real time during standard business hours in BRT following the kickoff period in Poland.
