  • Overview

    Appen develops high quality speech and language technology solutions namely used in car navigation systems, mobile phones, word processing packages, directory assistance, speaker verification tools and hand-held machine translation devices. Our staff comprises Linguists, IT professionals and Project Managers who collaborate to produce quality work in over 100 different languages for many of the world’s leading companies.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Checking acoustic and content quality of audio recordings in Afghani Dari
    • Other language-related tasks which require fluency in Dari, e.g. verifying text in Dari, checking context of dialectal words

    Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

    • Must be a native speaker of Afghani Dari
    • Your language skills must be current i.e. the language is still spoken and written in your day to day life
    • Must be able to work in our Chatswood office
    • Must have valid work rights to work in Australia
    • Good level of English proficiency (typing and speaking)
    • Good computer skills (basic to intermediate)
    • High attention to detail

    Preferred skills but not essential:

    • Education and Field: audio or linguistic background
    • Linguistics expertise: Applicant will need to have sufficient knowledge about dialects to assess or confirm speech data dialect region

    Project Details:

    • Location: Chatswood, Sydney
    • Hours: Varies based on data available, typically 5-10 hours per week when project is active. This is a casual part-time position
    • Length: 2-3 months depending on project progress
