High-quality training data necessarily includes human beings, to record and transcribe speech for example or recognise complex images. Appen uses a crowdsourced model to engage humans at scale, but this increases the cost, time and complexity of providing data sets. The company relies on technology to accelerate and reduce the cost of training data. It has developed and acquired platform that manages and enables crowd workers.



Appen’s growth strategy is built on four pillars:

  • Grow in New Markets: Drive growth in target customer segments China, Government, Enterprise, and Global Product
  • Automate our annotation services: Leverage AI and ML in our labelling operations to improve the productivity and quality of our workforce
  • Expand our product offering: Add new products and capabilities to expand into the broader data and AI market
  • Evolve how we do business: Improve the scalability of our operations including sales, project delivery, and crowd management



Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced product manager with new business strategy experience to drive strategic decision-making relating to new product initiatives. In this role, you will propose new product initiatives, recommendations, and winning strategies to the leadership team to justify your business cases and gain their buy-in. The responsibility includes a new business plan and proposal, roadmap definition, product execution, GTM strategy, and product launch.  



Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to drive strategic decisions for new product initiatives.
  • Define new business strategies and plans that align with company key growth strategies
  • Propose new business plans to the executive team and get their buy-in.
  • Use analytics and research to understand customer needs and turn these insights into a roadmap.
  • Define pricing strategies and models that support new business plans.
  • Prioritize roadmap and development efforts based on the new product initiatives.
  • Partner and collaborate with the marketing for GTM strategy and new product launch.
  • Build financial models to forecast potential revenue and success metrics for new businesses



  • BA/BS degree, with 5+ years of experience in management consulting or new business/product strategy for SaaS enterprise software company.
  • Prior experience in product strategy/product marketing or product management
  • Experience with market research, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Experience defining new business strategy and pricing.
  • Proven experience leading the delivery of strategies from roadmap to delivery to GTM.
  • Experience using data-driven analytics to gain insights on current situations, new opportunities, and product performance.
  • Experience owning and using measures like NPS, conversion funnels, and financial results
