Position Summary
Appen’s Project Manager (PM) is responsible for coordinating teams of specialists, linguists and project resources including independent contractors (ICs) towards customer project delivery while simultaneously handling key stakeholder relationships. The key accountability is delivering key performance metrics (throughput, quality and budget) for assigned projects. The PM works collaboratively with an Appen team to meet all client and project requirements.
Responsibilities
The role includes but is not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:
- Delivery to project objectives within project scope, timeline and budget
- Develop and execute delivery and quality management plans to support a project end-to-end
- Coordinate technical activities and aspects of the projects
- Drive continuous project improvements and efficiencies
- Deliver required performance metrics and KPI at or exceeding expectations
- Coordinate between project team members in a matrix environment
- Actively participate in WBR, MBR & some QBR meetings to establish and grow client relationships
- Communicate, with all stakeholders, in a timely, clear and concise manner
- Manage risks and issues and undertake recovery actions as necessary
- Prepare and implement project plans, prepare reports and project-related materials
- Solicit and use input and feedback from client, Appen managers and ICs to help drive efficiencies and improve quality plans
- Provide regular project status reporting and in-depth analysis when required
- Participate in the training and mentoring of new and existing Appen staff
- Adapt to changing project needs and expectations
- Participate in program improvements, initiatives, and committee work as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in linguistics, computational linguistics or language studies
- 2 to 5 years of project management experience in a a technology-oriented or services organization.
- Client facing or relationship management experience
- Motivated self-starter who can establish a course of action for self and others and drive initiatives to completion
- Flexible, independent, self-motivated; able to deal calmly and professionally with ambiguous data while leading in an environment of constant change
- Demonstrated ability to understand the big picture and use sound judgment to reach decisions while exhibiting sensitivity for all parties and issues

Overview
Appen is looking for linguists to annotate and/or transcribe data for our client’s Natural Language Processing systems. We have an urgent need for annotators who can work onsite at the client’s facilities, up to 5 annotators per language. The project is expected to continue through the 2020 calendar year.
We are currently hiring native speakers of English, Spanish, and French. We expect to hire annotators who are native speakers of Hindi, Italian, and German later in 2020, but applications for all roles are welcome now.
You are the right candidate if you love practical language analysis as well as theoretical, you're quick to learn new label sets, and you're willing and able to spend several hours per day focusing on your task with consistent results. You must also be a native-level speaker of one of the required languages.

About the Role - Transcription Supervisor
A Transcription Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of transcribers working online (remotely) in many different languages.
The main responsibilities are:
- Quality assurance: Ensure the transcribers are following guidelines and work with a language consultant to identify poor performers or issues affecting the team
- Crowd management: Communicate with the transcribers, providing updates on their progress, and responding to questions
- Meet production targets: Monitor and report on progress and take steps to increase production when needed
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills (especially written English)
- Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (including Excel) and Google sheets
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- University degree
- Experience in a language-related field such as translation
- Experience with project management

Position Overview:
The Data Collection Leader is accountable for the performance of the team and its Managers, and the financial and strategic success of the business, providing key leadership and direction to the team.
He/she leads project managers, specialists and delivery team to advises the Sales and Presales teams on task scope; develops technical solutions; and plans and deliver to the required service levels.
Position Responsibilities:
- Maintain oversight of key portfolio financials and project/task performance metrics;
- Identify and monitor portfolio level risks, issues, and dependencies, and support appropriate risk mitigation and management methods;
- Be a key sponsor for work tool and other technical developments required for the efficient and effective execution of specialized tasks;
- Collaborate with Sales team to engage China customers to promote our data collection capability & expertise and create demand opportunities;
- Fully understand customer and market requirement on data collection and able to translate to delivery execution;
- Having experience in large project delivery and able to manage the cost, timing and quality effectively;
- Build, lead and manage effectively a diverse workforce team globally to meet the delivery targets;
- Have reliable channels and resources network in order to deliver the project;
- Liaise with Sales, Marketing, Recruitment and execution and delivery teams to highlight strategic risks and opportunities. Maintain a strong resourcing pipeline to ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times;
- Ensure methods, practices, techniques, processes, etc. are regularly maintained and updated, in line with best practice;
- Fully understand the legal environment and make sure all deliveries are legally complied;
- In consultation with Managers, support career development and succession planning within the team.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor degree or above in a relevant area of specialization, or equivalent experience;
- Have strong customer and market insight in data collection, both image and language;
- Rich experience in getting valid data both image and language across the globe including Asia, Europe, Americas and Africa;
- Over 5 years’ management, Project Management or equivalent experience in leading a team of 50+ people;
- Global mindset, strong cross-cultural communication and collaboration
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure and constantly changing environment;
- Fluent English;

Position Summary
Associate Data Collection Specialist is responsible for executing data collection projects using Appen’s data collection systems, software and equipment. Associate Data Collection Specialist customises participant instructions based on project-specific needs, assigns tasks to participants, communicates with participants, monitors throughput, performs and manages quality assurance, schedules payments and supervises project-specific staff if required (e.g. recording supervisor, QA checker). Associate Data Collection Specialist works collaboratively with Data Collection Specialists, Solution Architects, Project Managers and other Specialists to meet project and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Use Appen’s crowd management and data collection tools to execute data collection projects of different types
- Maintain project trackers, monitor key project metrics and provide project reports as required
- Analyse project performance and take appropriate actions (with guidance from Data Collection Specialist or Project Manager)
- Respond to participant queries
- Set up payments for data collection participants
- Deliver to project objectives within project scope, timeline and budget
- Follow quality management processes and take corrective measures as required
- Provide training to QA checkers and data collection participants as required
- Manage QA checker performance
- Communicate with all stakeholders in a timely, clear and concise manner
- Adapt to changing project needs and expectations
- Follow strict confidentiality protocol regulating the handling of project and participant details and other sensitive information
- Be a proactive team member, contributing solutions and helping others as necessary
