The Associate Linguist applies their knowledge of linguistic phenomena, technical skills, and attention to detail to manage projects to quality expectations, timelines, and budget. Project Overview   The project involves updating the Greek lexicon used by our client’s suite of proofing tools (spell-checker, etc.) to incorporate new vocabulary related to COVID-19. - The Dev role will primarily involve compiling a list of new words to add to the lexicon, sorting these words into templates based on characteristics such as part of speech and inflection pattern, creating any necessary new templates, and updating the lexicon using the client's software. Qualifications - - A degree in linguistics or related field. - Strong knowledge of Greek morphology, inflection patterns, and current usage. - Guidance on using the client software will be provided but good technical skills and an aptitude for learning to use new software will be helpful. - Time engagement: 2-3 weeks; est. 29 hours total; starting ASAP - The QA role will primarily involve reviewing the vocabulary list and template classifications provided by Dev, and reviewing the output from various tests that will be run on the lexicon after it has been updated to ensure that all changes are expected. We are looking for an Arabic Linguist for a project that is currently in progress and is expected to continue through at least February 2021   The work requires an Arabic linguist (any dialect) to collate a list of “offensive” Arabic terms and then to review the existing Thesaurus for any word pairings that include those terms and to remove any potentially offensive word pairings. Some basic computational skills are required, but this aspect is well-supported by the project supervisors, so the main requirement is NS linguistics.
